KINGSTON, Jamaica --The Minister of Education says that just under J$1billion has been spent to provide textbooks for students islandwide.
In a report to the People’s National Party’s (PNP) executive at its regular Monday meeting yesterday, the minister urged councillors, mayors and members of Parliament to liaise with school principals in their constituencies and ensure that the provided texts were being distributed to students.
“This is a clear indication of the Portia Simpson Miller Administration’s unwavering commitment to assist Jamaican parents in providing adequate education for their children,” Thwaites told members of the party executive. The Minister also confirmed that the accounts of Primary and Secondary Schools have been credited with their subventions ahead of the official September 1 start date for the 2014/2015 academic year
