Buhari Should Exercise Caution On Appointments – Publisher

The Publisher of Orient Daily Newspaper, Mr. Godwin Ezeemo, on Sunday urged President Muhammadu Buhari not to appoint members into his cabinet based on sentiments, if he truly wants to fight corruption.

The publisher, who stated this in an interview with journalists in Abuja, noted that past leaders with good intentions in the country were usually disappointed by their cabinet members who were only interested in amassing wealth for themselves.

He said, “The President cannot be everywhere, even though we see him to be an upright person. What I will suggest is he must make sure that in selecting people that will work with him, he must pick people that can deliver.

“He should not pick people because they come from a particular geopolitical area not minding his or her ability to deliver on their mandate. If he does not heed to this and picks incompetent persons, they will let him down and he will be blamed for it.

“For instance former President Goodluck Jonathan had good intentions for this country but I am sure the people around him were more interested in what they could get and they were doing things with impunity”.

Ezeemo pointed out that Jonathan meant well for the country and would have performed better than he did had he appointed the right persons to work with him.

He said, “President Buhari should therefore exercise caution in whom he picks to work with him. If he gets the right people to work with him, we will then be able to fight corruption collectively.

“There should also be CCTV cameras in all offices so that those responsible can monitor the activities that go on in the offices to checkmate corruption”.
