THE least mark for admission into universities in Nigeria for the
2014/2015 academic session has been pegged at 180; and 150 for
polytechnics and colleges of education.
The Policy Committee, made up of vice chancellors, rectors, provosts
and registrars of universities, polytechnics and colleges of education
arrived at the benchmarks at the 5th Combined Policy meeting on
admissions to tertiary institutions held at the National Universities
Commission on Tuesday.
At the meeting, chaired by the Supervising Minister of Education,
Chief Nyesom Wike, Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations
Board (JAMB), Prof Dibu Ojerinde said 1,584,348 (97.07 per cent)
candidates who sat for the 2014 Unified Tertiary Matriculation
Examination (UTME) applied to degree awarding institutions or
universities; while 25,767 (1.57 per cent) and 22,072 (1.34 per cent)
applied to study at the colleges of education and polytechnics. Only 46
representing 0.003 percent applied to study in the innovation and
vocational enterprise institutions where they would earn the National
Innovations Diploma (NID).
