Anambra Varsity, Police collaborate on campus security

In a bid to fur-ther strengthen the security measures to protect lives and properties on its Uli, Igbariam and Awka campuses and other parts of the state, the Anambra State University, (ANSU), Uli, has received a hand of fellowship from the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Usman Qwary, who paid a courtesy visit to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Fidelis Okafor.

Qwary who was deployed to the state in December 2013, said the visit became imperative as the university was one of his flashpoints and therefore deserved special attention.

Receiving the CP alongside the vice-chancellor were the Registrar, Okwudili Okechukwu; Bursar, Prince Chinedu Okeke; Librarian, Dr. Nobert Agbanu; Chief Security Officer, Obi Okonkwo and the university’s spokesperson, Chinwe Nnedum.

The Anambra Police boss, who expressed optimism in  the efforts of the VC  and the entire university community in partnering with the Police, said: “The hallmark of good policing is being proactive. My VC, I urge you and the university’s Chief Security Officer to always call on me whenever the need arises, as my utmost desire since arrival is to give the state unparalleled security of lives and property.”

While receiving CP Qwary, the VC, who lauded his efforts in effectively policing the state since arrival, cited the sack of notorious hoodlums from Upper Iweka, Onitsha, as a good omen, that is in line with Governor Willie Obiano’s Operation Kpochapu security strategies in the state.

Okafor said: “Thank you once more for including ANSU in your security map. Like other institutions, ANSU deals with youths of different colorations and backgrounds, battling with cultism and other negative tendencies of the youth. As parts of our determination to rid the school of cult-related activities, at least 497 students denounced cultism in 2012. Since then, the school has been enjoying peace and tranquility, unlike what obtained before then.”

Similarly, the Registrar, Okwudili Okechukwu thanked the CP for visiting the university, assuring him of a good working relationship and cooperation with the state’s Police command.
