There are strong indications that the Academic Staff Union of
Polytechnics (ASUP) terminates its 10-month-old nationwide strike,
which was triggered by poor funding of polytechnics and endless discrimination of poly graduates in the labour market.
An undisclosed source, who informed Naij.com via e-mail in the
afternoon of July 12, 2014, Saturday, confirmed the development, added
that “the decision may not be unconnected with the meeting the Union had

words of Clement Chirman, the National Publicity Secretary of ASUP. The
secretary also informed the newsmen that the resumption date is set for
July 15, 2014, Tuesday.
ASUP has been on an indefinite nationwide strike since October 2013.
Multiple meetings between the leadership of the union and the Federal
Government, Nyesom Wyke, have previously led to nothing.
However, ASUP National Executive Council (NEC) conducted ‘fruitful’
negotiations with the newly-appointed minister, Ibrahim Shekarau, as a
part of its two-day meeting, which has probably led to the resolution of
the crisis.
