ASUU seeks welfarist system for Nigeria

THE Academic State Union of Universities (ASUU) has called for the introduction of socialist welfare system of government in Nigeria.
ASUU National President, Dr Nasir Isa stated this in Calabar yesterday while addressing journalists at its National Executive meeting held at the University of Calabar adding that this would take radical and effective measures to substantively elevate the level of the welfare of the poor, liberally and generously in the country.

ASUU said “the very first step that is required to address the challenges which flow mostly from the character of the dynamic of global capitalism into which Nigeria is embedded, by instituting a socialist welfare state in Nigeria.
“The Nigeria polity is called a federation. But it is, in reality operated like a monarchy even though it is called a Republic. The ruling class keeps sermonizing about true federalism  , in reality what counts as ‘ true federalism’ is a dispute, a subject of controversy determined by calculation of the felt need of each ethnic wing of the ruling class for grabbing wealth, political and economic domination.”
