At NUSSA Games, Uniben Vice Chancellor urges friendship

THE Vice Chancellor, University of Benin, Professor Osayuki Oshodin, on Monday urged management of universities across the country to explore the friendships that could be generated through sports across universities.

He stated this during the opening ceremony of the 11th Edition of the Nigerian Universities Staff Sports Association (NUSSA) being hosted in the school.

Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Professor (Mrs.) Obehin Okojie, Oshodin said, “I commend you all for taking time out of your tight schedule to be here, particularly the vice chancellors present, as I am aware that some of you are not just here as VCs but also as athletes.

“I say more grease to your elbows. It is a cocktail of emotion for me and the University as we host this games; it is out of our desire for the promotion of sports in Nigerian Universities and Nigeria in general which is a symbol of unity that made us agree to host this games.”

According to Oshodin, “The peculiarity of this games is that the athletes are adults who are also parents so efforts should be more on the friendships to be made and relationships that will be built.”

He said the organisers had ensured that the standard of the game is of global level, adding that 27 universities from across the country are participating in the games, which will end on August 9.
