Conference recommends additional security measures for FCT schools

A conference on security in FCT schools has recommended the provision of adequate facilities such as perimeter fencing, lighting as well as proper search on persons and vehicles moving in and out of schools.
The conference also recommended the provision of electronic security devices such as bomb detectors, CCTV, X-ray baggage machine, hand held metal detectors, among others, as well as periodic security awareness lectures, and simulation drills for managing emergency situations.
The recommendations, part of a release at the end of a one-day conference on security in FCT schools, recently held at the National Women Centre, Abuja, also recommended the recruitment of qualified security personnel to man the schools among others.
FCT Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, in his address, recalled the many attacks on schools in the country and lives lost, and remarked that the spate of violence necessitated the proactive measures the FCT has taken, including organising the conference.
In his address, Secretary for Education, FCT Education Secretariat, represented by the Executive Chairman of FCT UBEB, Alhaji Umaru Ningi, said the conference, as a proactive effort to secure lives and property in FCT schools, anchored around three premises - how to prevent attack, what to do when such an unlikely incident occurs, and how to respond by providing support for the victims
