The Director, Minbar- Minds Children School, Abule-Egba, Lagos, Mr. Muyili Abdulazeez, has urged pupils and their parents to be washing their hands regularly to avoid contracting any disease.
The appeal came as he said that Muslims are one-step ahead of the Ebola Virus Disease.
Abdulazeez stated this on the sidelines of the school’s Graduation/Prize Giving Day on Saturday.
He said, “Ebola is a very challenging disease, but Muslims are far ahead. Hand washing has been part of Islam for many years even without Ebola. During the holidays, we have told our pupils and their parents to continue the practice as often as possible. Cleanliness is next to godliness, it is important to be hygienic as much as possible at this time.”
Abdulazeez, who frowned on examination malpractice, noted that some parents withdrew their children from the school because of its stand on the vice.
He said, “Some parents and guardians withdrew their children and wards from the school because we did not join the bandwagon of helping candidates to pass examination. I feel fulfilled today that our graduating pupils are university materials who wrote and passed their examination on their own.”
The Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Justice Sector Reforms, Mr. Omotayo Mustapha, who also spoke on the occasion, urged the graduating pupils to remain focused in their studies.
He said, “I challenge you to make something great out of your lives. With the help of Allah, no one can stop you from achieving your dreams. Remain focused and be determined to succeed no matter the odds.
“In my university days, my mother had to choose between buying a television and paying my school fees. She paid my fees and today, I can afford to buy her 10 television sets if she wants. She did not only sacrifice for me, I studied hard so as not to disappoint her.”
The headmistress, Mrs. Tayyibah Garba-Muyili, advised parents to support the school in order to bring out the best in the pupils. “The task of moulding cultured minds is undoubtedly Herculean. We can only achieve this through the mercy of Allah and the synergy between the home and school. I, therefore, urge our graduating pupils to uphold the supremacy of Islamic culture and values and I wish you the best of luck,’’ she added
