Firm introduces portal for schools

An Information Technology start-up firm, M-Office Portal International, has developed information management systems that will aid stakeholders in the educational sector to make accurate decisions.

The IMS is known as M-Portal system and will first be deployed in Anambra State’s local government areas.

“It will be specifically used in local government areas having more than one school and for school owners with just one location,” Miss Chinyere Agbokan, the Managing Partner of the company, said.

Agbokan said the benefits of the M-Portal system to schools, parents and the state government were effective monitoring of students’ attendance, up to date monitoring of students overall performance in classes, and easy identification of challenged students.

The solution, she said, would aid in areas of weakness and ability to identify highly gifted students, ability to identify attendance trends in schools, areas and regions, and ability to identify attention areas subject-wise.

“It will help in the effective tracking of students that have not completely paid their school fees, preparation of payroll schedule for teachers, reliable storage of lesson plans and scheme of work from all teachers in all the various classes, and management of teachers’ database,” Agbokan said.

She also stated that it would assist in the management of students’ database as well as that of their guardians and provide realistic and informed hints on possible career paths for students based on each student’s overall result.

“Hence, the system will also show the performance of an individual student, an individual school, and gender performance using diagrams, graphs, bar-chart, pie-charts of students and schools in the state. See ratings of top schools to bottom in the state accordingly, based on performance evaluation and attendance of students.,” she added.

The M-Office Portal boss noted that the system could prove to be helpful in collecting vital data and eventually using that as an input to overall school education policy for the state government.

She said, “This means that parents will be able to monitor their children’s academic performances remotely using their smartphones, tablets and personal computers.

“The student will also have the opportunity to take tests and examinations using the computer system. This will give them an opportunity to get acquainted with computer-based test as it is now the new trend in major exams like JAMB, Post-UME and other international exams.”

She said through the use of this school information management system, schools like Zaria Academy, Karis School, LoveWorld Schools had made tremendous progress.
