FUD sponsors 87 staff to postgraduate training
The Vice Chancellor, Federal University Dutse, Jigawa State, Professor Jibrilla Dahiru Amin, said 87 academic staff of the university are on post-graduate training within and outside the country in various disciplines.
Prof. Amin disclosed this yesterday in a chat with newsmen in his office. He said out of the 87 beneficiaries, 50 are pursuing PhDs while 37 are for masters degree programmes.
He said the university makes training of staff a cardinal point of its existence, adding that non-teaching staff too have benefited from the exercise.
He said in the 21st century a university can only occupy a pride of place with competent academic staff who will impart latest ideas in their chosen fields to their students.
Prof. Amin also told newsmen that one of the innovative ideas on leadership training introduced at FUD is the compulsory community service for the students to enable them have a firsthand idea about the problems in their immediate community as part of the interaction between town and gown.
He said the idea behind the community service is to inculcate in the students love of being their brother’s keeper which is an important aspect of African culture.
