LASU Workers Suspend 2-Months Strike

The striking workers of the Lagos State University, LASU, has suspended its continuous strike.

The strike that lasted for two months finally was suspended by workers of Lagos State University, LASU, chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, Ojo.

This information was made available to newsmen by the spokesman for the university, Mr Kayode Sutton, who noted that the union suspended the strike to enable the university hold a hitch-free convocation and 30th anniversary ceremonies.

However, the main reason for the suspension is claimed to be the university authorities’ readiness to meet the striking workers demands, especially those bordering on promotion.

Although the union directed its members to return to their duty posts immediately, it requested for the immediate release of the pending June and July salaries of its members, which was stopped as a result of the industrial action.

It would be recalled that LASU had embarked on the strike since May, citing fee hike, non-promotion of workers and non-implementation of the Universities Miscellaneous Provision Act.
