Welcome development
The reduction of the school fees is okay.
It is a welcome development because some other students who have always
wanted to apply for admission in LASU will now find it affordable,
regardless of the strike which the school experienced.
— Sunday Olushola
Long awaited
It’s what most students have waited for.
It is okay by me, and if possible, the Lagos State Government should
even reduce it further for easy learning.
— Ifunanya Enkeywe
It’s belated
Wow! That’s good. But they should have
done this a long time ago. I thank God all the same. I’m praying they
reduce it some more though.
Govt should sustain cut
I believe it is a bit fair, factoring in
the standard of living of the lower class in Nigeria. But much should be
done by the government to sustain the school. In terms of basic
facilities, the school themselves need to encourage more investors in
order to reduce the burden.
— Ayo Obayemi
Too long in coming
I really believe that this should have
happened a long time ago, instead of making students spend so much time
idle. One can imagine the effect of the fee hike on the massive number
of students would who could not afford it.
— Benedict Dayas
It’s political
It’s commendable. Even the poor can now
send their wards to the Lagos State-owned university once more. It’s a
good move, but the standard of education in Nigeria still needs a lot of
improvement. With the 2015 Lagos governorship election close ahead, I
sense politics at play.
— Isaiah Adebisi
Ploy to win poll
This is obviously against next year’s election. It’s an All Progressives Congress’ plot to win people’s votes.
— Olufunmilayo Adetunji
It could be lower
It’s good news. Education should be
accessible to everybody. If possible, the fee should go down a bit more,
but I think it is fine as it is.
— Fisayo Ebiniyi
A good one
I feel the reduction of the Lagos State
University fees is a good action made by the government to provide
affordable education. Students can now stop protesting and return to
school.
— Damola Balogun
Let other states follow suit
With this step, Governor Babatunde
Fashola has finally laid down a great legacy for himself. This historic
action will definitely outlive him and his name will go down in history
as a great leader. He has shown that he has listening ears and he is in
touch with the present realities in our country. I wish other leaders
can follow Fashola’s footsteps.
— Ugochukwu Chikezie
Will there be a refund?
What would happen to students who had paid the exorbitant fees for a programme which is yet to end? Will there be a refund?
— Madu Onyema
A panic move
Why that reversal now? It’s just a panic
move. It’s all about the fear of the Ekiti loss repeating itself in
Lagos. Will toll gates be scrapped? Will VIO fees be reduced to normal
rate? Let us see how it will all play out.
— Olayemi Kent
Make education affordable
The reversal is good news. While
education is not cheap, public education should not, in any case, be
priced out of the reach of the poor majority who are its largest
beneficiaries.
— Emeka Onyeabor
Nice move
It is a nice move by the Lagos State
government. This is the best thing that has happened to Lagos State. At
least people can now afford to go to school.
— Jideofor Nwoke
Don’t compromise standard
It is a good development. It means
students can now concentrate on their studies and forget all about
strikes. But I just hope it’s not a ploy to reduce the standard of
education.
— Ezinne Egbete
Victory for students
Kudos to the Students’ Union Government of LASU. This showed a selfless and people- oriented student leadership.
— Uche Okafor
A reasonable step
Though a lot of time had been expended by
the students on protests, the government took a reasonable step by
reducing the atrocious fee. Certain factors ought to be adequately
researched before decisions are taken by the government.
