The Police Prosecutor, Ahmed Ali, told the court that the accused uncle (name withheld) reported to Bosso Area Police Station on
August 2, 2014, that the accused person’s mother called him on the telephone that report that the stabilizer was missing.
Ahmed said the accused’s father, who is critically ill, was on his sick bed in his room when the accused made away with the item.
He said the accused, a resident of Bosso Area of Minna and a 300 Level student of University of Ilorin, stole his father’s stabiliser
valued at N15, 000 and sold it for N7, 000.
When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded for leniency. “I stole the stabiliser to buy new clothes to celebrate sallah with my friends,” he said.
The Police Prosecutor thereafter prayed the court to try him summarily in line with section 157 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
In her ruling, Magistrate Hafsat Abdullahi, ordered the accused to be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to August 8, 2014 to enable her to meet with the accused’s mother.
