Student dies during visit to sperm bank
A trainee doctor, Zheng Gang, 23, has lost his life in bizarre circumstances after visiting a sperm bank in China last week. The tragic incident, according to Huffington Post, happened on Gang’s fourth call to the place within a week. Reports say the student died of a heart attack while looking at erotic magazines in a private booth at the bank.
Medics at the bank set up at Wuhan University in China noticed that the young man had taken longer than expected, spending more them two hours alone. But when they checked, they were shocked to find the 23-year-old lying unconscious on the floor. Efforts to revive him yielded no result.
Enraged by the incident, Gang’s family members sued the sperm bank to court, accusing them of his death. But the court has now ruled that Zheng was entirely capable of making his own decisions about his life, including whether he wanted to take part in the sperm bank programme or not.
His family however had demanded almost £500,000 in compensation, insisting that the facility had pressurised their son into agreeing to take part and had not handled the situation properly when he was found unconscious. A lower court had only awarded the family £19,000 plus £8,000 in funeral costs, but they appealed. But that decision has now been upheld by the High Court
