W’Bank partners school in human development initiative

The World Bank has partnered the Ibadan Business School in its human development programme.

The Board Chairman, Ibadan Business School, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, said this in Lagos during a programme of the school, a statement said on Sunday.

Afolabi commended the partnership, saying it was an endorsement of the school.

He said, “The World Bank in a letter noted, ‘We have since seen your facilities and we are happy to inform you that the World Bank is willing to partner with your institution and to introduce your programmes to World Bank-supported project teams in Nigeria’.”

Afolabi said he hoped the partnership would improve the school’s programmes and affect the nation positively.

“The IBS equally recognises the need to design appropriate business-oriented training programmes to equip public sector officials with efficient service delivery, knowledge, skills and attitude to enable them deliver efficiently as the drivers of the nation’s economy,” he added.

Afolabi, who was a former Head of Service of the Federation, spoke in company with other members of the board which included the Vice Chairman, Wole Olanipekun; a former Managing Director of Oodua Group of Companies, Dr. Adebayo Jimoh; and the President and founder of the school, Mr Yinka Fasuyi.

Fasuyi, in his remarks, said the school was established to provide quick response to Nigeria’s socio-economic development challenges through its needs-driven, tailor-made and home-grown programmes.

He said, “The nation is facing the challenge of transiting from a developing to a developed state, where the private sector will drive the economy. To do this, the appropriate skills to set up, operate and manage businesses must be taught and these are beyond the curriculum of the formal educational institutions.

“Developing this strategic missing link is the focus of IBS and we are happy that the World Bank has identified our strong point and decided to partner with us in this regard.”

Fasuyi also stated that the partnership would have great impact on the nation’s economy.

He said the synergy would strengthen the school’s goal to deliver cutting edge training programmes for the public sector, micro, small and medium scale enterprises.

Also, Jimoh said the bank’s collaboration with the school was an endorsement of the two-year-old institution, adding that the recognition showed the IBS was on the right path towards human-capacity development.
