UNILORIN MATRICULATES 12,650

No fewer than 12,650 students of the University of Ilorin were matriculated in this year's matriculation ceremony.

The procession of the ceremony which started proper at 10 : am, saw all matriculating students converged at the vast university auditorium for the August occasion. The students, decked in an all colorful blue gown, were seen beaming with smiles; amidst glitz and cheers of excitement to one another.
As it is common at the university of ilorin, a team of academic scholars of the university preceded the procession of the Vice-Chancellor and his entourage led by the university Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics, Professor Mrs N.Y.S.C Ijaya.
In a break-down figure as given by the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Abdulganiyu Ambali, out of the 114,700 students that applied to the university through direct entry and UTME, only 41,470 students met the university minimum requirement of 180 as prescribed by jamb. The total number of successful candidates eligible for admission is put at 22,601, the university in it capacity was able to adjust by increasing the number of admitted candidates to a total of 12,650, which is estimated as 11% of the total number of applicants. Out of the 12,650 admitted candidates, 80 are international students, which is considered a huge progress as compared to the over 9,000 students admitted in the previous year. The process however, saw the Faculty of Education with the most number of admitted candidates raised to 2,152 students.
The Vice-Chancellor in his special speech titled; "ARISE AND FLY", admonished the matriculates on the importance of the occasion, saying; "As successful students who have proven to be better by far, and for having scaled through the many hurdles to be admitted to this institution, i congratulate you all.
Today is historic in the life of many of you here present because, it is a day some of you if not all of you have been looking forward to. Today as you are been given your matriculation number, you become a bona-fide member of this great institution, with your rights and privileges attached to you."
The Vice-Chancellor urged the students to be grateful to God, their parents as well as the university for considering them worthy of admission among the many admission applicants. He charged them to adhere strictly to the university rules and regulations, to work hard on their studies and health and be punctual to lectures. "As students you must respect yourself, your colleague, your teachers and all university staff. Do not engage in examination malpractices or be involved in any form of behavior that will jeopardize your stay as student of this honorable university. Our motto in the university is simply, Prohibitas-Doctrina (for Learning and Character). I believe you can fly, therefore; i urge you all to rise up and fly higher."
The matriculation Oath was administered on the students by the University Chief Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Dada Obafemi, who in-turn advised the students to adhere strictly to the agreement of the oath sworn to. He wished them a fruitful academic journey ahead.
The occasion witnessed the presence of the university Vice-Chancellor, Deputy Vice-chancellors, Directors, the university Registrar, the university Bursar, university Liberian, Provosts, Deans of all faculties, Academic and non-academic staff of the university. Other special attendees includes; the Press, the university scholars, Parents among all other well wishers.
