The Minister of State for Works, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye said yesterday that the fear of losing Lagos State to the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the 2015 general election forced Governor Babatunde Fashola to reverse the tuition fees at Lagos State University (LASU).
Adeyeye, who briefed journalists in his Ise-Ekiti home yesterday, said the reversal of the fees from over N300,000 to N25,000 by Lagos State governor and the planned review of the ban on Okada in the state were an “act of deceit propelled by the fear of an impending rejection by the people in 2015.”
Fashola, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), will end his second term tenure next May, but his party which has been ruling in Lagos since 1999 will present candidates for the governorship and other elective positions in next year’s elections.
The minister said the Ekiti governorship election held last June, where Ekiti people voted en masse against the incumbent governor and APC candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and elected the PDP candidate, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, had thought Fashola’s party that Yoruba could no longer tolerate any anti-people policy from any party.
Adeyeye said he was proud to be part of the June 21 governorship election, which, according to him, forced the APC governors to embark on desperate review of what he described as anti-people policies, saying: “Ekiti people can now hold their heads high, having liberated the South-West from the oppression of the APC.”
