Ex-speaker tasks students on leadership


The former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole has urged the students of Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State to prepare themselves very well to be able to take effective leadership roles in future.

He gave the charge at the fourth legislative and leadership summit held in the university recently. The forum with the theme: “Good governance, adequate security and youth empowerment: Tripod for a first class nation” was organised by the legislative arm of the school’s students’ union.

Bankole charged the students to be actively involved in political activities around them while giving their studies a deserved attention as well as developing right attitude and contributing their own quota that can help in moving the nation forward.

On her part, the Comptroller of Immigration, Ogun State, Mrs. Victoria Isang urged government and other stakeholders to give quality education due attention.

According to her, education has become a major tool for empowerment and any nation that fails to educate its youths is planning for its own doom.

Mr. Titi Matesun of the Development Finance Office, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) in his contribution called on the students to inculcate entrepreneurial spirit so as to be able to economically engaged on their own now and after graduation.

Earlier in his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Olusola Oyewole of FUNAAB, who was represented by the Dean, Student Affairs, Prof. Yemi Akegbejo- Samsons, commended the students’ body for putting up the programme, saying it would be of immense benefit to them.
