Sokoto State Governor, Alhaji Aliyu Wamakko, yesterday described the
National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme, as the key solution to the
myriad of problems bedevilling the country.
Speaking at the swearing-in of the 2014 Batch '' B'' corps members
deployed to the state Wamakko maintained that the scheme helped in no
small measure in the attainment of national development and integration.
According to him, the NYSC is an agent of change and a means to achieving most of the hopes and aspirations of Nigerians.
Wamakko, who spoke through the state Commissioner for Sports, Alhaji
Dalha Sidi, emphasised that Nigeria placed high premium on the corps
members as the future leaders of the nation.
"You should continue to complement the efforts of the state government in uplifting the quality of life of the people and be true agents of change by impacting positively on the lives of the people,"he said.
He assured the corps members that the state remained one of the most peaceful in Nigeria and urged them to be law abiding.
In his remark, the state Coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Thomas Yamma, stated that 2,596 corps members had so far been registered.
Yamma commended the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa'ad Abubakar,
Wamakko and the people of the state for their support to the scheme.Also speaking, the Chairman of the NYSC Governing Board in the state, Alhaji Halliru Tambuwal, who spoke through a member of the board, Alhaji Abdullahi Maishanu, said adequate arrangements had been made to ensure the safety and welfare of the corps members.
