Take your responsibility seriously, proprietor advises parents

The Proprietor, Great Solid Rock School, Alagbado, Lagos, Mr. Oladipo Simeon, has called on parents and guardians to be more committed to the training of their children and wards.

Oladipo made the call in Lagos on Thursday during the school’s eighth Graduation and Prize-Giving ceremony.

He noted that for children to attain academic excellence and greater heights in life, they needed proper parental mentoring and guidance.

The educationist also blamed the high rate of moral decadence in the country on parents.

According to him, many parents have abandoned their basic responsibility of training their children.

He said, “If we are involved in the upbringing of our children, it will give us rest in our old age. No amount of investment on our children is too much. Teachers will do their bit, but parents have a lifelong responsibility to put the children on a moral pedestal. It is not enough to send children to school. Parenting is sacred and tedious, but it is the most rewarding role in the world.’’

Oladipo also urged relevant authorities to formulate policies aimed at improving the facilities and standards of teaching in the nation’s public schools.

“The old glory must return to our public schools. With all hands on deck it is a mission that can be accomplished,” he added.

Urging the graduating pupils to strive towards academic excellence, Oladipo reminded them that hard work remained the key to a successful life.
