VC tasks students’ union exco on discipline

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has advised members of the Executive Committee of the institution’s Students Union to exhibit a high level of discipline while discharging their duties.

Ambali gave the advice while addressing the newly elected student leaders who visited him.

The VC, who congratulated the new Students’ Union Executive Committee members on their victory, described the process of electronic voting that produced them as first of its kind in the country.

Ambali, who advised the student leaders not to compromise their primary mission in the university, charged them to strive hard to justify the confidence reposed in them by their colleagues who gave them the mandate.

The VC also advised them to shun cultism, indecent dressing and examination malpractice, which he described as the three major vices that attract strict punishment.

He further noted that the university management would come up with a number of programmes to equip students with various entrepreneurship skills to enable them to become employers of labour rather than job seekers upon their graduation.

Earlier, the Sub-Dean, Student Affairs, Dr. A. Yusuf, who led the students to the VC’s office, explained that the current student leaders were products of the electronic voting process.

Yusuf thanked the authorities for providing an enabling environment for the students, which, he said, had assisted them in all ramifications.

In his remarks, the new President of the Students’ Union, Ahmed Yaqub, pledged that his team would consolidate on the legacy left behind by their predecessors.

Congratulating the VC and the university management on the latest rating, Yaqub said they would ensure that the university not only maintain its first position in the country but also become the best ivory tower in Africa.

The Students’ Union President thanked the authorities and the students for giving them the privilege to contribute their quota to the progress and advancement of the university.
