Katsina disburses N19m mass literacy education materials
The Katsina State Agency for Mass Literacy has distributed instructional materials worth about N19 million to its field zonal coordinators across the state.
Speaking at the launching and distribution of the materials, the state Commissioner for Education, Professor Aminu Kurfi, said adult and non-formal education is a veritable avenue to absorb those who hitherto could not attend formal education.
He said government is committed to ensuring it provides the enabling environment for all those who aspire to acquire formal education as age barrier is no limitation to educational pursuit.
According to him, the administration expends over N50 million annually on the payment of its literacy facilitators and urged them to justify government investment in the sector.
Earlier, the Acting Executive Director of the agency, Ahmed Doki, had called on government to urgently address the issues affecting the agency which include shortage of manpower, befitting office accommodation and increase in number of literacy centres.
He assured that the agency will strive to ensure its mandates are achieved so as to ensure that all those seeking formal education are provided it.
