27,573 Bauchi students jostle for scholarship

The chairman, Bauchi State Scholarship Board, Alhaji Mohammed Kaloma Hardawa had said that a total of 27,573 students across the state would undergo screening for scholarship.

He made the disclosure while briefing newsmen in his office on the activities of the board, saying the screening exercise was to flush-out those who are not Bauchi State indigenes.

The measure will also enable the state to save money which would have been wrongly used in sponsoring non-indigenes. He noted that the board returned about N150 million to government coffers from the previous exercises as excess money.

He added that the screening exercise and payment of money to beneficiaries would be done electronically to prevent fraud.

Hardawa disclosed that not less than nine local government council areas have already been covered while four are receiving attention and the rest will follow there-

The chairman however used the medium to charge students to obtain voters registration cards, saying the Board may demand such document in future.

Speaking on the alleged fraud in the board, Hardawa said the organisation had handed over the alleged perpetrator, Nasiru Nuhu Chigari to Police authorities and had since charged to court for prosecution.

He explained that the accused used a separate bank account through Facebook to falsely indict the management of the board on allegation of financial mismanagement and sexual immorality with a staff member.

He lamented that the face-less group had continued to hijack government policies and programmes through syndicate group determine to cause friction and to expose the confidentiality of government that has transformed the state. It could be recalled that one El-kassin Nuhu has last year committed same offence through face-book when court charged him of character defamation against the board
