Ijaw summit to educate youths –Eradiri

The President of the Ijaw Youth Council, Udengs Eradiri, has said that the proposed Ijaw Youth Council World Summit will discuss ways of boosting educational opportunities for youths in the region.

Eradiri noted in a statement that the summit expected to be declared open by President Goodluck Jonathan , holding between September 9 and 11, would, among other goals, educate and empower youths of the Niger Delta.

According to him, unlike in the past when youths in the area engaged in confrontation, they are more willing to adopt constructive methods as they are hungry for education.

By this, he said, the summit themed ‘Partnering for Prosperity and Sustainable Development’, which will have many students from higher institutions in attendance, will give them the avenue to chase their dreams and create better livelihood for themselves and the society.

He added that over 1,000 delegates, including youths, government officials, community and religious leaders and other stakeholders would attend the event holding at the Petroleum Training Institute, Effunrun, Delta State.

Eradiri said, “The summit equally intends to come forward with possible solutions to challenges such as empowering and creating a prosperous and secure environment in the region while also aiming at promoting sustainable growth, development and integration. “The fact that this is coming from the IYC shows that the council believes it is time for a more non-confrontational approach that will give stakeholders a platform for engagement and discussion aimed at addressing these various challenges, especially in the region and look at how we can harness their creativity and assist them in developing opportunities
