NYSC apprehends 281 fake corp members in Niger, Suswam cautions employers against rejection
THE National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) recently, apprehended about 281 fake corp members at the orientation camp in Niger state.
Meanwhile, not less than 3,259 batch B members have successfully completed their two week orientation in the state.
Also, about 230 members made up of pregnant and nursing mothers were also disallowed from taking part in the normal routine during the two weeks orientation exercise in the state.
Speaking with Journalists, after the closing ceremony of the 2014 Batch B orientation course in Minna, the state coordinator of NYSC, Steven Ehoda-adi said all the fake corp members sent out of the orientation camp have nothing to show to qualify to be admitted into the camp.
He disclosed that while some of them gave the excuse of being attacked by armed robbers on their way to Minna and their call up letters taken away from them, others claimed to have misplaced their call up letter.
Ehoda-adi also explained said that in some instance, some of the corp members presented only photocopies of the call up letter, adding that the NYSC authority does not accept such for admitting corp members into the camp.
He further disclosed that about 230 female corp members were not allow to take part in the normal routine during the two weeks orientation course because they were identified as either nursing mothers or pregnant.
Earlier, while declaring the orientation closed, the Niger state Governor Dr. Muazu Babangida Aliyu said that despite the insecurity in the country as a result of the activities of Boko Haram, the unity of the country is not negotiable.
In a related development, Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State has warned employers of labour in Benue to refrain from rejecting corps members posted to them for their primary national assignment.
Suswam stated this at the closing ceremony of the NYSC Batch B orientation course at Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of the state.
Represented at the event by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr David Salifu, Suswam maintained that his administration would no longer accept reports of corps rejection and advised them to report such cases to him.
He advised the corps members to contribute meaningfully towards the socio-economic development of the state, just as the governor said he was working towards completing the orientation camp and making it one of the best in the country.
The governor further advised them to contribute selflessly to the development of their host communities by executing specific community projects and urged them to build networks of friendship across the state.
Speaking on Ebola virus, the governor cautioned them against compromising their personal hygiene to avoid getting infected with the dreaded Ebola virus.
Speaking earlier, the NYSC coordinator in Benue, Mrs. Esther Atanmenwan,
enjoined them to work towards achieving national integration.
Mrs. Atanmenwan further assured that the NYSC would continue to monitor the performances of the corps members in their areas of primary assignments in the state.
Also in a speech, the commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Igbiri Idaah, warned the corps members against involvement in criminal activities. Adaah, who is also the chairman of the NYSC board in the state, said corps members who contravened the laws of the scheme would be sanctioned by extension of their service year
