Kano Police Ban Polythene Bags at Polling Booths
The Kano State Police Command has ordered that no polythene bag or any similar objects should be allowed at polling area during the coming governorship and house of assembly elections for the security and safety of the exercise.
Addressing journalists yesterday after meeting of interagency held at police command headquarters Bompai, the state Police Commissioner Ibrahim K. Idris, warned that anybody who takes the risk of carrying bags would not be allowed near the polling units. “Polythene bags and similar objects are banned from the designated polling units. We wish to have smooth and successful elections,” he warned. He therefore called on people to give all the necessary cooperation to the security agents that would be deployed to man the exercise.
Idris urged people should strive to obey all instructions given by the security agents, “as peaceful election is our target.” Idris further revealed that security agents would put some extra checkpoints at areas that were identified as volatile spots. He called on the people of the state to cooperate with the men in uniform. “The ban on quasi-security agencies not to wear uniform is still on. We have also made an adjustment on the restriction of movement during the Saturday election as movement of people is restricted between 6a.m. to 5p.m.,” Police Commissioner reminded.
On his part, the newly appointed Resident Electoral Commissioner Husaini Halilu Pai, promised that the electoral body was ready for the conduct of the poll.
