Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babatunde Fashola SAN, has urged the 2014 Batch ‘B’ Stream 11 corps members deployed to Lagos State to leave behind a positive impact at the expiration of their service year.
He gave this charge during the swearing-In ceremony held at the NYSC orientation camp, Iyana Ipaja, Lagos. He said: “As agents of change and development, the state is looking up to you for physical transformation and technological ideas that will add to the socio-economic development in our education sector.” Also, he pointed out that attention of corps members are needed in poverty eradication, rural health and in combating the HIV/AIDS pandemic as well as other ills and diseases bedevilling the society. Speaking through the Commissioner for Special Duty, Lagos State, Dr Wale Ahmed, he enjoined the corps members to seize the platform of the NYSC to cultivate a healthy relationship with one another.
He promised that the government will do everything possible to create a conducive environment for them to carry out their service.
Meanwhile, the Lagos State NYSC State Coordinator, Mrs Adenike Adeyemi disclosed that a total of ……… Corps members are deployed to Lagos State.
The Coordinator who lauded the NYSC scheme, noted that the developmental growth in critical sectors of the economy such as agriculture, education, health and rural development cannot be mentioned without the invaluable contributions of corps members.
Adeyemi reiterated: “The scheme has four cardinal programmes which are: the orientation course, primary assignment, community development service CDS, the winding-up and passing out exercise.” She told them that all the programmes are crafted to develop their capacity and widen their perception about life. She, however urged them to be discipline, saying that the camp is a place where corps members movement and activities are kept under closed watch
