Ijaws Hail Jonathan in Defeat
The people of Ijaw ethnic nationality have commended President Goodluck Jonathan for conceding defeat in the just-concluded presidential election, saying he had made them and Nigerians proud by his show of sportsmanship.
This is as the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) hailed Jonathan for a rare show of courage in congratulating General Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the polls.
The President of Ijaw National Congress (INC) - Worldwide, Boma Obuoforibo, on behalf of the Ijaw nation, made the commendation in a press statement issued in Port Harcourt ON Wednesday.
Obuoforibo said: “On behalf of the Ijaw ethnic nationality, we commend President Goodluck Jonathan for his courageous outing in the 2015 presidential election.
“He made all Nigerians proud by his unprecedented show of sportsmanship in accepting the verdict of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“His telephone call to congratulate General Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the polls, even before the formal declaration of result by INEC, is a statesmanlike act that has endeared him as role model for emerging leaders of our country and Africa.
“We congratulate General Muhammadu Buhari on his victory at the polls and wish him divine wisdom and courage to lead our dear Nigeria into a new era of peace and broadly shared prosperity.” The INC president thanked those who supported Jonathan’s re-election bid and appealed to them to take solace in the example of a democrat he had given Nigeria and also eschew any act capable of endangering the peace, unity and corporate existence of Nigeria
