NAFDAC Unveils New Storage Facility
The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has inaugurated its newly built warehouse in Lagos to serve as additional storage facility for seized regulated products.
The Director General of the agency, Dr. Paul Orhii who inaugurated the warehouse said that the agency was faced with the challenge of storage space after fire gutted the agency’s warehouse in 2012.
It would be recalled that in December 12, 2012, the agency’s warehouse was gutted by fire, destroying various seized fake, counterfeit products and drugs.
According to Orhii, the inaugurated warehouse will provide the agency with the much needed additional storage required for seized regulated products. “It is a modern and well equipped facility where detailed attention has been given to the security, safety, storage and retrieval of products patterns.
“The warehouse is critical in the storage of counterfeit products intercepted by the
agency’s enforcement officials before it is tendered as exhibit in court during prosecution.
Orhii pledged that his agency would continue to ensure that only quality food, drugs and other regulated products are manufactured, distributed, imported, advertised, sold and used in the country.
Meanwhile, a popular Nigerian musician, Mr Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo, popularly known as D’Banj recently stormed the new ultramodern regional administrative headquarters and laboratories of the agency to lend support to its renewned public enlightenment campaign against counterfeit drugs and other substandard regulated products in the country.

He explained that his tour of NAFDAC laboratories and the illuminating explanations offered by the regulatory officers on duty should be widely disseminated to millions of vibrant Nigerian youths who are ignorant about public health issues and regulatory activities.
His words “I am very impressed and inspired with what I have seen at NAFDAC laboratories and other offices. Before now I find it difficult to distinguish a genuine drug from the counterfeit. We hear a lot of news about fake drugs. From what i have seen today, I am well informed. On behalf of the Nigerian youths, I just have to commend NAFDAC for their good works.
D’banj who was visibly mobbed by enthusiastic fans praised the Director – General of NAFDAC for taking the Agency to greater heights as one of the top 20 medicines Regulatory Authorities in the world.
In response, Orhii said D’banj’s visit was a morale booster and source of encouragement for the NAFDAC regulatory workers saddled with the sacred mandate of safeguarding public health.
