50 teachers with fake certificates to be sacked in Abaji
The Secretary of the Local Education Authority (LEA) in Abaji Area Council of the FCT, Alhaji Hassan Suleiman, has revealed that 50 primary school teachers were discovered to have been using fake certificates in the council.
Suleiman, who was in the company of the council chairman, Alhaji Yahaya Garba Gawu, made the stunning revelation at the palace of Ona of Abaji and Chairman of the FCT council of chiefs, AlhajiAdamu Baba, Yunusa, on Monday. He said the fake certificates were discovered during the just concluded screening exercise for 170 teachers in the area.
He wondered why people forge certificates and signatures to secure jobs, instead of going to school to acquire the required knowledge and a genuine certificate.
“There was a man, who presented a certificate to me that he is looking for job, immediately I went through the certificate, I discovered that it was fake and the man was trying to deny it. When I tried to confirm the authenticity of the certificate from the school he claimed to have attended, he then confessed that he bought the certificate,’’ he said.
Also speaking, Chairman of the council, Alhaji Yahaya Garba Gawu, said it was devastating that the issue of certificate forgery remains on the increase.
‘’Today, the issue of going to buy certificate has become the business of the day. And I have said it unequivocally that by the time you go into objective analysis, you will come to realize that 50 percent of our primary school teachers today are not qualified,’’ he said.
