Varsities, others get N84.4m impact grants —FG
THE Federal Government has disclosed that it has supported 42 tertiary institutions across the country with the sum of N84.4 billion for development of their critical infrastructure in the last three years.
Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, who made this known, said the amount represented the high impact grants to tertiary institutions by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
Under the TETFund High Impact project, six universities, three polytechnics and colleges of education are selected each from the six geopolitical zones every year for the special grant, for upgrade of their teaching and learning infrastructure.
While universities receive N3 billion each, polytechnics and colleges of education receive N1 billion each.
The minister, in a document chronicling some of the achievements recorded in the education sector under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, scored the government high on investment in education.
Giving the breakdown, Wike noted that 20 universities had, so far, benefited from the grants to the tune of N60 billion in the first to the fourth phases of the project.
