Education: Yobe Spends N771m On Scholarship




Yobe state government has spent a total sum of N771 million Nigeria for sponsorship of indigenous student to study various course within and outside the country.

The Executive Chairman of the board, Alh. Ibrahim Toshia, who disclosed this to our reporter in his office in Damaturu, said the expenditure covers the payment of allowances and tuition and registration fees for students studying within and outside the country.

A breakdown of the expenses shows that the sum of N415.5 million was for 154 students studying for various PhD and Masters, Bachelors and Medicines certificates course in foreign countries in Europe, Asia and African countries.

In 2013, the Board sponsored 4 students to undergo one year Helicopter training programme at the International Helicopter Flying School, Enugu while 88 students were sponsored to attend special courses in Arabic and French languages at Ngala, Borno state and Porto-Novo in Togo Republic as a prerequisite for their graduation. Because of the emphasis placed on improving the human resources at the state’s health sector, 30 medical students were sponsored within the years under review, to study for various degree certificates in Medicine
