Ex-VC seeks to unseat Okorocha

A former Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Prof. Jude Njoku, has said that he would unseat the incumbent Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha.

Njoku, who is a governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, told his supporters in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital, that he was in the Imo State governorship race with a determination to bring sanity to the governance of the state.

The former VC said that politicians who were not conversant with public administration had been allowed to run the affairs of Imo State, saying the situation had drawn the state backward and below other South-East states like Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi.

Njoku said he would bring the era of rascality in government to an end and said that his administration would embrace due process if he was voted in as the governor of Imo State.

He said, “I assure you that I will win the governorship election if given the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party.

“You know that we have experienced some level of rascality in Imo State. Things are not done the way they should be done. Urban water system is not running, our hospitals are not functioning. We need to bring in people who are well bred in the art of governance.

“In Imo State, come 2015, we need somebody we know very well, somebody whose track record of performance we know and somebody who knows that the resources of Imo belong to Imo people.

“This is why I have decided to run for the position of the governor of Imo State. As a former vice chancellor, I don’t think I am ready to destroy a name I have built for over 30 years. We need change in Imo State and I am offering myself to bring the required change to the people.” Recalling that he was voted the best vice chancellor in Nigeria in 2004, Njoku said, “Having given FUTO an effective leadership, it will not be difficult for me to give Imo people effective governance. If you can govern a university effectively, you can also govern a country
