Lagos empowers 8,000 teachers on Ebola response
NO less than 8,000 public school teachers have been trained by the Lagos State government on the signs and symptoms of the Ebola Virus Disease, EVD.
The development came on the heels of the directive for resumption of schools in the state.
Addressing the teachers during the programme organised by the State’s Ministries of Education and Health, Special Adviser to the Lagos state Government on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina said aside from the information on enlightenment and alertness, each school would be provided necessary materials as a preventive measure.
“Aside from the Thermo scan and gloves that will be made available to every school in the state, government will ensure that all schools in the state have access to water which will help in promoting hygiene habits.
“This Thermo scan will help teachers to check the temperature and any student with temperature above 37.5 degrees centigrade, and present with some signs like fever, vomiting and diarrhoea, the teacher should contact the school principal who will contact the nearby Primary Healthcare Centre along with the parents of such student and if such case is beyond the PHCs they will quickly contact the Ebola hotline,” Adeshina added.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Lara Erogbogbo said: “We met with private schools in the state and the hand washing propagation has been on ground before Ebola came. This is just to reawaken our students and the public in particular because whatever the students learn in school they will extend to their parents.”
