‘ICT knowledge still inadequate in schools’
Governments at all levels have been urged to step up efforts to train pupils in Information and Communications Technology. The lawmaker representing Lagos East Constituency, Senator Gbenga Ashafa, gave the advice at the graduation of some ICT pupils in Lagos.
No fewer than 558 youths, including primary and secondary school pupils, were said to have so far benefited from the training.
According to him, the initiative is part of his vision to ensuring computer literacy in his constituency.
He said, “ICT literacy still remains unsatisfactory in schools and the government must keep working on this. It will be of great advantage to us if our youths are knowledgeable in ICT from primary school.
“This is one thing that has kept this programme alive. Developing youths in ICT was one of my cardinal points during my electioneering.
“It is pertinent to point out here that there are 33 youths graduating today. This number is in addition to the 525 youths from the past 12 batches. Consequently, by the end of today, we would have graduated 558 youths, with 36 of them going home with new computer systems and printers.”
On the performance of the former beneficiaries, the lawmaker said, “These people belong to the 13th and 14th batches and it is instructive to note that feedback from past graduands indicates that our efforts have not been a waste.
“We can only advise those graduating today to make the best use of the training they have received here.
