University of Ibadan swears-in new students’ union leaders
The University of Ibadan has sworn-in the newly elected members of the students’ Union body for the 2013/2014 academic session.
The swearing-in ceremony was held at the Trenchard Hall of the institution.
The outgoing Students’ Union President, Comrade Babatunde Badmus, gave the account of his stewardship while in office and commended all positive minded students for their support to the outgoing executives.
While advising the new executive members to be sober, vigilant, straight forward while in office and handle union property with care, he appealed to the students to support the new leaders.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Professor Akinola Alada, congratulated the new leaders and commended the outgoing leaders for a job well done.
The new President, Comrade Oluwafemi Odesola, in his speech highlighted the need for revitalising the true spirit of unionism among students.
Odesola said his regime will improve internet facility, healthcare centre, library and welfare of students.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Isaac Adewole, commended attitude of students since after resuscitation of unionism on campus four years ago after ten years of proscription.
Adewole said new water treatment plant would be commissioned soon to alleviate problem of water faced by students in Obafemi Awolowo, Idia, Nnamdi Azikwe and Independence halls.
