Police arrest ATBU student for raping minor


THE police in Bauchi ,last Saturday, arrested a 33-year-old 200 Level student of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, (ATBU), Bauchi, one Habibu Abdullahi ,for allegedly having unlawful canal knowledge of a six-year-old girl.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), of the Bauchi State Police Command, Haruna Mohammed, at the weekend, the suspect, who is a Quantity Surveying student at ATBU, Bauchi, was arrested at about 12:15 pm for defiling the little girl at the State Lowcost Housing Estate, Bauchi.

Abdullahi, a resident of Wunti Street in the state capital, according to the statement, took advantage of having access to the victim’s house, being her former school teacher. He confessed to having illicit affair with the victim for the second time,the first being after Eid-il-Fitir holidays in July, 2014.

The statement recalled that sometimes in March, this year ,one James Dantayi, an assistant headmaster of a primary school in Bauchi, was also arrested for having an illicit affair with his pupil in his office after school hours.

Meanwhile, Mohammed, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), stated that the suspect would soon be arraigned in court as soon as the police completed their investigation into the matter.

In another development, the PPRO informed that police detectives attached to the GRA Divisional Police Station in Bauchi, last Friday, arrested one Emmanuel Asemave, a 34-year-old male of Gassol Local Government Area of Taraba State and a 35-year-old Jimmy James, , of Katsina Ala, Benue State.

The suspects were said to have obtained under false pretence the sum of N60,000 from one Joel Sumi of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area of Bauchi State, on Bank Road area of Auchi metropolis ,where they posed as fortune tellers and defrauded their victim.

In a related development, the police also arrested one Jamilu Hussaini of Hotoro ward in Kano State, who conspired with two others now at large and obtained the of N99,000 from one Saidu Adamu, of Unguwan Sarakuna area of Bauchi under false pretence that they were “evil spirits”.

The suspects, according to the PPRO, deceived their victim to drop the money at Sabon layi area of Bauchi, which he did and picked another bag containing $400 and his N99,000, which on reaching home,he discovered that the money was fake.

The PPRO informed that the three suspects arrested confessed to the offence, while exhibits recovered, adding that investigations into the matters were in progress.

The police, however,urged members of the public to be weary of such “false prophets” and not to part with their hard-earned money through these dubious means and cheap blackmail.
