Providence boss stresses importance of balanced education
The Principal, Providence Heights Secondary School, Iju-Agege, Mr. Godwin Abhulimhen, has said that only a proper development of the child via education can guarantee a better society.
Abhulimhen made the assertion during the school’s 17th valedictory service.
According to him, with balanced education, there is the likelihood of pupils to attain sound moral and academic heights.
The development, he added, prompted the authorities of the school to give priority to what he describes as comprehensive education.
He, however, gave kudos to the staff for the progress the school is recording.
Abhulimhen said, “The secret success in Providence Heights Secondary School in internal and external examinations as well as competitions has been the coordinated efforts of its members of staff through teamwork, supported by the directors and our proprietress who bring to bear their wealth of experience.
“The excellent performance by our pupils is hinged on the experience, discipline and passion for the job by the teachers. Again, the teaching and non-teaching workers of the school ensure that the pupils are victorious in all their examinations.”
A university teacher, Prof. Samuel Ogundare, in a lecture titled, ‘Know the Good, Desire the Good and do the Good: Teach Yourself Character Education’, urged the outgoing pupils of the school to cultivate ideals that would make them functional members of the society.
He noted that while many schools concentrated on the academic development of their pupils, only a few paid attentions to character development.
