UNILAG/OYASAF workshop calls for entries

The Department of Creative Arts, University of Lagos has called for entries for the third edition of its art entrepreneurial workshop for students and professional artists from within the Lagos area.

The project sponsored by the Omoba Yemisi Adedoyin Foundation and coordinated by artist and lecturer Akin Onipede will hold between October 20 and 24. It will emphasie the teaching of participants skills, so that they can produce affordable, sell-able and market-driven arts.

According to a statement from a lecturer in the department, Prof. Peju Layiwola, submissions should have reached the Creative Arts Department by September 30.

Olayiwola says, “Participants will acquire an entrepreneurial advantage, often de-emphasised in the art school curriculum. Some of the processes to be taught will include craft procedures that could be translated into critical artistic statements for the future. The selected areas for this first workshop are ceramics, bead and wire works, photography, drawing and experimental art forms.

Seasoned artists to groom participants are Ato Arinze, Ojetunde Oluseyi, Ayodeji Adewunmi, Boye Ola, Ariyo Oguntimehin, Temilola Marindotin, Adedamola Runsewe and Sola Ogunfuwa.

The organisers add, “Certificate of participation will be made available for all participants and prizes will be awarded for the best work in each category. An application letter indicating only one area of interest, email address, website, telephone number, three images of recent works or links to website containing the works and a recent one-page resume should be sent by email to unilagoyasaf2013@gmail.com .”
