Yoloye highlights advantages of studying abroad
A Professor Emeritus, Ayotunde Yoloye, has said that education in Nigeria will improve if quality and relevant aspects of educational system in advanced countries were adopted.
Yoloye, therefore, urged those who travel abroad to study to ensure that they modified their learning to suit Nigerian situation.
Yoloye, the coordinator of the National Advantage for National Development, spoke at a programme organised by the Foreign Schools/Admission and Scholarship Consult in Ibadan.
He said it was necessary to uphold the universal feature of education, which, according to him, has the capacity to enhance the global perceptive of students.
Yoloye said, “Education has to be the culture of every country in order to have varieties of views on how it is done elsewhere. Some courses are not available here and very well on ground abroad. Because of this, students who have the opportunity to study abroad will have an edge over their counterparts who study only what is available at home.
“It helps to bring much experience which is to our country’s advantage. There is the need to imbibe the ideas from abroad because in the true sense of it, we have a lot to learn from foreign countries with excellent educational system.”
Yoloye, who did not condemn studying overseas, said the structure of Nigeria educational system was not very bad.
“Education in Nigeria is developing rapidly. We have students who are doing well abroad but there is always a room for improvement to every country to develop her education to suit its programme and society. To do this, we can tap knowledge and ideas from foreign system,” he added.
Also, the Chief Operating Officer of FSS, Olayinka Ola, noted that the inability of Nigerians to secure admission in the country prompted to seek to study abroad, where there was no interruption in curriculum.
