As public schools prepare to re-open on September 8, 2014 from the long holidays, the Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, has met with States Commissioners for Education to discuss the risk posed by the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease in the education sector.

Speaking at the meeting in Abuja Tuesday, the Minister said EVD is a matter that has been creating apprehension in all spheres of national life, hence the need for the Ministry to invite officials of the health ministry to brief the commissioners on all necessary steps to be taken to protect school children.

The Director of Port Health Services in the Ministry of Health, Dr. Sani Gwarzo, in a presentation to all the Commissioners on the EVD, said it is necessary for the education sector to quickly take all necessary steps to ensure that children are protected as schools re-open.
