The Guardian declares emergency on education

THE Guardian, generally believed to be Nigeria’s most influential newspaper is fully persuaded that unless we swallow our pride and vanity now to address the fast-declining standard of education at all levels in the country, we cannot aspire to be part of those to make an impact in the 21st century.

Besides, The Guardian is convinced that education in its qualitative form is the only known weapon of innovation in this time that the legendary Peter Drucker says is only for those who value knowledge. Professor Drucker believes this century is for “knowledge workers.” That is why we believe that the recent West African School Certificate Examination (WASCE) results are quite provocative.

A very dismal performance in the May/June examination has triggered some thoughts in this newspaper’s editorial board. That is why The Guardian has declared an emergency on education, the only reliable tool of global competitiveness.

Rush to The Editorial of today’s issue to find out why you too should be part of the new corporate policy of the flagship of the Nigerian press.
