Monarch tasks parents on girl-child education
The Agora of Zuba, Gwagwalada Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Muhammad Bello, has urged parents to devote their time in educating the girl-child.
The monarch, who was speaking at the Eid prayer ground, as part of activities to mark the Eid-el-Kabir in the area, also admonished parents to always exhibit good moral attitude towards their children.
He noted that education is the only legeacy that parents should leave for their children for them to become meaningful and be able to contribute to the development of the society.
According to him, the time in which parents send their children, especially girls to hawk fruits and other commodities in the street, is over. He said it is the collective responsibility of parents and stakeholders to support the education of every child.
“It is high time parent’s accorded priority to their child’s education, both Islamic and western education, especially now that the world has become a global village because the era when some parents send their children to hawk is over,” he said.
The monarch also enjoined residents of the chiefdom, especially farmers and Fulanis, to sustain the peace enjoyed in the several communities while he called on the youth to shun acts of social vices and be law-abiding citizens. After observing the two Raka’at prayers, he proceeded in company of his subjects and other traditional title holders to preside over the slaughtering of the chief Imam’s ram at the Eid prayer ground.
Also, the Agabe of Ugbada-Gwargwada community in Kuje Area Council of the territory, Alhaji Hussaini Agabi Mam, implored residents to continue to live in peace irrespective of their tribe, religion and ethnic affiliations.
Mam, who was speaking in his Sallah message shortly before he observed the two Raka’at prayers at the Eid prayer ground in the area, also urged residents of the community to imbibe the culture of good healthy living by keeping their environment clean.
“Although the minister of health has made it clear that there is no case of Ebola in the FCT, but there is still need for the people to be conscious and always keep their surroundings clean and healthy,” he said.
Muslims in the FCT joined in the celebration of the Eid-el-Kabir at the weekend; it is usually preceded by observing two Raka’at prayers at designated praying grounds.
