Scores injured in Polytechnic protest
The peace of Bori, host community to the Rivers State Polytechnic in Khana local government area, was yesterday shattered following a brawl between students and security personnel attached to the institution.
Trouble started Wednesday afternoon when security operatives responded to a call to the venue of an election by members of the National Association of Akwa Ibom State Students, Rivers Polytechnic chapter.
It was gathered that while the election of new executive members of the association was going on, a student identified as Effiong, was accosted by some members of the school security outfit, but that the student refused to cooperate with the security officers, a development that attracted the Chief Security Officer of the institution.
It was learnt that the Police later came to the scene and got the student arrested.
Later on Wednesday evening, there was rumour that the Effiong had passed on, but this was denied by the school Chief Security Officer.
